Trending hairstyles

If you are out of ideas for new haircuts and styles, Sarah DuFrane, expert hairstylist has provided us with styling and color ideas that are very popular this season.

Hair trends change faster than most of us change our underwear. One day were putting feathers in our hair and the next day we’re ripping them out and growing out our highlights for the new “ombre” look. I’m always keeping up with the newest trends (I mean what GREAT hairstylist doesn’t?!) and there are so many going on right now that I’M LOVING. They’re so versatile and there’s one for EVERYONE! Alright ladies (and gents), here we go!

SPLIT BANGS:

OH EM GEE. First off, I love bangs. Second, I LOVE split bangs. These were made for my long haired ladies who want change but love their long hair. They’re super easy and flatter most face shapes. They add pizzazz to boring ponytails and soften the look of tousled curls or flat-ironed hair. They’re not hard to maintain; because of the shape, they grow out easily (maybe a bang trim or 2 in-between haircuts) and are easy to style with any way you part your hair.

PASTELS:

Hair color so soft and yummy, you almost want to eat it. For our more punky colored crowd, pastels are the haircolor for 2013. How many celebrities have we seen dip-dye their long blonde locks a rainbow of cotton candy colors? Creative color is my passion and it’s really where I get to let my freak flag fly! Below are a few of my friends rocking the hottest pastel looks right now. Kayla is channeling her inner mermaid while Kerry’s cotton candy hair looks so fluffy you just want to reach out and grab a bite! 🙂

SHORT HAIR:

I cannot express how excited I am that short hair is trending again. And this time it’s not just bobs, its pixies! I’m rocking an awesome pixie right now, courtesy of my friend Robert.

Ladies if you’re thinking about it, JUST DO IT… IT’S JUST HAIR! AND IT GROWS! I cut mine off 3 years ago and have not looked back.  I feel sexy and so much more feminine than I ever did with longer hair. It’s so fun to style and I’m always changing it up. Currently I’m growing mine out a little bit (think Michelle Williams in the Louis Vuitton ads). There are so many ways to style it and paired with the perfect color, you are sure to look like a knock out. Short hair and fabulous color are the best of friends. It can be a little $$$ but the way you feel and the way people look at you is priceless. PLUS, you don’t look like everyone else! Toss out your security blanket and just go for it. Balls to the walls ladies!

Short hair is an attitude more than it is a haircut. Not having hair around your face or neck can be scary so you must have the confidence to pull it off!! You just need to OWN IT.

CHOCOLATE OMBRE:

The original ombre is too passé but oh dear heavens is this chocolate ombre trend ON POINT. Perfect timing for our darker fall color palette! Beautiful espressos bleeding into chestnut browns into caramels. Cool dark chocolates bleeding into warm milk chocolates into honey glazed. Smoky browns bleeding into Rich mahogany into more caramels. Yummy in my tummy, now I’m hungry! Brunette has always been my favorite hair color and now I’m in hairstylist heaven because I get to create multiple brunette colors on one head. Don’t walk, RUN to your hair salon and get your chocolate ombre on!

‘THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE’ LOOK:

I don’t think I really need to explain the title considering many of us have been there… maybe one too many times. (guilty!) It’s a take on the hot mess look— think undone textures. It’s messy and disheveled and never perfect. It’s a messy bun on top of your head, or your curls fallen out from partying the night before. It’s cute bedhead at a Sunday morning brunch with a lot of coffee.

Here’s a few tips to achieve this look without a whole lot of effort.

  1. On damp hair, apply some mousse or texture spray (TIGI Root boost is perfect for this!) and braid hair in 4 quadrants (split hair down middle then split each side at the back of the ear). Sleep on it overnight. In the morning, undo braids, shake and spray with hairspray or TIGI Bedhead Oh Bee hive for added texture and mess.
  2. Wrap hair in sections around curling wand. After done with whole head, give it a shake and spritz with hair spray. Flip head over and back and you’re done.
  3. To spruce up your bedhead from the night before, use some TIGI Oh Bee Hive dry shampoo at roots and mid lengths and zap ends with shine spray to tame them. Leave as is or braid loosely off to the side and pull some pieces out around your face.

The best BEDHEAD starts with the best BLOWOUT

As we enter the season of gingerbread lattes, mistletoe and an unforgettable New Years kiss, let me leave you with BETTER HAIR DAYS. Like I said in the beginning, good hair isn’t cheap and cheap hair isn’t good. The most dramatic change you can make is with your hair. Take care of it and it will take care of you!

May great hair days be ever in your favor.
