Girl Crush Of The Week: Lupita Nyong’o

I don’t know about you guys, but I love to take some time out of my weekend to think about my plans for the future. It is a great time to ponder on your next steps as you have few responsibilities and truly have time to think about what you want to achieve and how you are going to achieve it.

This week, I was inspired by an incredibly intelligent, ambitious and persistent woman who has accomplished many things. Among them include winning an Oscar, graduating from an ivy league school (Yale!), landing a beauty campaign with Lancome and having the honor of being the cover girl for fashion bible, Vogue magazine. This young woman was born in Mexico and of Kenyan descent but she dared to dream big and aim high and ultimately she got to experience what it feels like to have a dream come true.

For her Oscars acceptance speech, she said something that captures her journey so far perfectly. She said, “When I look down at this golden statue, make it remind me and every child that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid.” And they are indeed.

Yes, we are talking about the one and only Lupita Nyong’o. Here at Lady Code, we are so proud to see a strong woman who has both beauty and brains. Lupita, you will always be the queen of our hearts.

We hope that you, too, will be inspired by Lupita to find what you love and chase after it with all that you have.
