Dr. Barbara Fredrickson believes that positivity has two importance effects: they broaden our perspective of the world (thus inspiring more creativity, wonder, and options), and they build up over time, creating lasting emotional resilience and flourishing.” -Mimi Guarneri
Those who read the blog religiously know it has been a while since I posted a Motivational Monday, but I have had my reasons. I have either been really sick, like I can’t get out of bed sick or extremely overloaded from rehearsals for a play, which just finished it’s run last night.
A little info about me, I have been performing in plays for the past 10 years, and in all that time, I have never found a play that I love more than Butterflies are Free; a love story set in the late 1960’s. This happens to be the play that has taken up so much time, but I would not have had it any other way. I was able to grow as an actress and woman. Even though I have no intentions of majoring in theater, this experience did open my eyes to the possibility of minoring in it during my college years.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Sunday was my last performance and to say I am sad is an understatement.
However, instead of dwelling on the negative, I am trying to remain positive and want to share a quote I am sure many of you have heard or read before,
because it’s over, Smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss
A friend of mine, who worked with me on the play sent me this quote this morning, as if knowing I needed some source of inspiration for this post. Whether it is a friendship, or a vacation, or in my case, a play that has recently come to a close, try to remain positive. Even when the experience is over, the memories will always be there.
Martin Seligman is the forerunner in the Positive Psychology field. He has studied that individuals who are more successful and lead more fulfilled lives are those who remain positive and optimistic about life.
This Monday I want to motivate those who read this post to remain positive about the world around them, in the end optimism always wins.
Have a positive week everyone!
