The secret is Honey!

Regardless of how hard we try to protect our face from sun exposure it is hard to escape its radiation 100%.  A tanning session leaves your skin dehydrated, with excess sebum, and sometimes acne.  The effects of sun exposure appear 10, 15, or more years later. This is why as we age we notice, brown spots on our skin and the skin loosing its elasticity.

After a day in the sun, or a tanning session, we notice that our skin apparently looks better ( the redness goes away, blackheads are not as evident, and a more even tone color overall). Let’s not get fooled by this! All of these positive effects are for short time only!

The sun affects each type of skin differently:

Oily Complexion

  • the glands produce more sebum, therefore your skin will be more oily

Dry Complexion

  • an intense dehydration of the skin

Acne Complexion

  • it intensifies the appearance of acne

Also did you know that sun exposure accentuates the appearance and effects of cellulite?  – Due to sun exposure, our bodies lose water and nutrients.

Due to its known and popular therapeutic effects, honey is known to be the best ingredient when it comes to skin treatments. Honey calms, hydrates, and rejuvenates the skin.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp honey
  •  fruits (strawberries, apricots, grapes, lime)

Mash the fruits together, puree (smooth, creamy, substance) and add the honey and mix them all together. Once they are all mixed together the mask is ready to be applied. Leave it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Do this once a week!  After the mask it is recommended that you hydrate your skin. I use the Nuance by Selma Hayek – Smooth & Firm Elixir. This product has Sea Buckthorn Extract which hydrates and helps smooth skin for a youthful look. O2 Complex with Ginseng Extract provides antioxidant protection for a glowing, healthy complexion. Vitamins A, C, and E help condition skin.

In ancient civilizations, the oil from the Sea Buckthorn plant was known as “liquid gold” for its ability to soften, smooth, and rejuvenate skin. It has a high content of essential fatty acids and nutrient-rich vitamins.

Aside from the honey mask or other treatments, make sure to care for your skin accordingly. Wash your face twice to remove impurities. At night make sure that you remove all the makeup and have a good makeup remover. This should be followed up with a good toner! Remember to use a moisturizer! Depending on your skin type some prefer to have a night moisturizing cream and a day one! You can either have both or just one that can be used at night or in the day.
